If you are a parent, there may come a time when your kids ask you to install a mod like Apocabuckets on Minecraft.  Or, it may be another mod that has tsunamis, earthquakes, tornadoes, weather or other disasters.

I’m not 100% sure what the Minecraft developers were thinking, but installing a Mod can be frustrating – mainly due to the wide variation in tutorials out there.  Some are out of date.  Others are loaded to the gills with spammy links.

The goal of this article is to once and for all, walk you through how to install the Apocabuckets mod on Minecraft, so your kids will keep bugging you about it.  🙂

If you are a kid reading this, the tutorial will also work for you, too.  We will do our best to eliminate all of the crazy links you usually see out there or at least help you avoid them as much as possible.

Ok.  Are you ready?  Let’s go!

What is the Apocabuckets Mod?

You may wonder – what is Apocabuckets in the first place?  It’s a cool mod that has several buckets that let you unleash destruction on your Minecraft world.  The buckets include – Tsunami, Apocalyptic, Void, Fire, Black Hole, Toxic, Frozen, White Paint and Purple Paint.  Here is a YouTube video demonstrating this mod:

How to Install Apocabuckets Mod for Minecraft on Windows 10

These instructions should work on other versions of Windows, but I can say for sure this works with Windows 10 as I have successfully installed it on my computer.  When I get a chance, I’ll add instructions on how to install this on Mac.  Please bookmark this post for Mac OS X instructions.

Step 1: Install Minecraft Java Edition for Windows – Important to note that Apocabuckets is a MOD and not an ADDON.  There is a difference.  Mods are for the Java edition.  Addons are for the Windows 10 version of Minecraft that you can download from Microsoft’s store.  So if you are trying to install this for the Microsoft Store version, you’re out of luck.  Go to https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/ and download the Java edition.  Currently it’s the big green button at the top of the page.

Step 2: Install Minecraft Forge 1.7.10 – This is a base mod that allows you to run other mods with.  A mod loader they call it.  I still don’t fully get it, but whatever.  You need to install it.

Here’s where things get confusing.  To make things simple I recommend you choose to install Minecraft Forge Mod Loader for Minecraft 1.7.10.  The file name should be Forge-1.7.10-installer.jar.  You can download it from this site at http://www.mc-mod.net/minecraft-forge/

Be careful not to click on any weird links.  You can use the Brave browser for extra security.  To avoid clicking on spammy links, take a look at these screenshots.  Be sure your antivirus and other security software is running just to be on the safe side.

Go to this page at http://www.mc-mod.net/minecraft-forge, scroll down and click the “for Minecraft 1.7.10 (installer.jar)

The next page may give you a warning – so it’s up to you if you want to continue.  I went ahead and downloaded and haven’t had any problems.  I do get a pop up from Nod32 blocking a specific javascript that is on the page, so it’s possible you will see something.  If you wish to continue, click the grey “Download” button at the top that looks like this:

If all goes well, the Forge-1.7.10-installer.jar file should be in your downloads folder on your PC.  You can leave it there or move it to your desktop.  There’s one more step before you install it.

Step 3: Install Java – if you haven’t installed Java on your PC yet, you will need to in order to proceed any further.  Java is a free and trusted download you can get here: https://www.java.com/en/download

Step 4: Install Minecraft Forge Mod Loader – Go back to the file you downloaded in step 2 (Forge-1.7.10-installer.jar) and double click to install.  You will need to be logged in as admin on your PC.  It will give you the option to Install client, Install Server or Extract.  You should select Install Client and click ok.  Finish the installation and proceed to step 5.

Step 5: Open Minecraft, Change Launch Options – Now you need to make a custom launch option using Forge.  After you start Minecraft, you will see a menu at the top that says “News”, “Skins”, “Settings” and “Launch Options”.  Click on Launch Options.

Launch options screen:

You will need to add a new configuration first.  Click the plus sign and “Add new” button.

You may want to name it something like “Apocabuckets” or “Forge” so you will remember every time you play.

Next you need to select the right version below the name.  In the “Version” field, click the field and scroll down until you see a version that should say something like “release 1.7.10-Forge..”.

On the bottom left click the button to turn on the “game directory”.  It should turn green.

You will now see this screen below.  Click the green save button.

Step 6: Download the Apocabuckets mod file for Minecraft 1.7.10 at http://www.9minecraft.net/apocabuckets-mod/

You need to scroll to the bottom of the page.  Look for “For Minecraft 1.7.10” and the red “Download from Server 1” link below it.

Just like when you downloaded Forge, you may see a page that your computer tries to block, so just keep this in mind.  You will need to click the “Download” button at the top.  Feel free to scan this file with your antivirus program just to be safe.

Now you can leave this file in your downloads folder or move it to your desktop.  Whichever you prefer.

Step 7 – Copy the Apocabuckets mod file into your mods folder in Minecraft – Now you need to go back to the Minecraft game to the screen you were on in Step 5.  This is the “Launch Options” settings for Forge.

Look for the “Game directory” field at the bottom.  To the right of that you should see a tan folder and a little green arrow that points to the right.  You want to click the little green arrow.  When you hover over this it should say “Go to folder”.  Click that and it will open up your Minecraft game directory.  It should look something like this:

Now, go to the Apocabuckets mod file – should be named something like ApocaBuckets-Mod-1.7.10.  Copy it.  Then open up the “mods” folder as you see in the screenshot above and paste it in there.

YOU’RE DONE!

You may need to close Minecraft and restart it.  To lauche Minecraft with your newly installed mod you will click the green “Play” button at the bottom of the main Minecraft screen.  Just make sure you select the version you created that you named “Apocabuckets” or “Forge”.

You can see if it was successful by looking at the “Mod List” after the game launches.

How to Use the Apocabuckets Mod

I won’t go to deep into this subject, but I will show you how to find the buckets.  Once you have started a game, you need to click “e” to open up your inventory.  Then click the little round compass icon in the upper right to search.  Search for “bucket” and it should display all buckets available.  The pink ones are a part of the Apocabuckets mod.

Play around and have fun.  Please note these can slow your gameplay down especially on older computers.  If things slow down too much simply save and quit the game… then start a new world as if it is a fresh canvas to unleash destruction upon.

Conclusion

I hope this has helped you figure out how to install the Apocabuckets mod.  It can be very frustrating if you are not familiar with Minecraft – or you are impatient or short on time.  Hopefully these instructions have saved the day for you.
